| Are You Hungry Yet?
My adjustment to Florida life is complete. A new Whole Foods market has opened up near work and lo and behold they stock.... triple creme brie cheese. Not the normal double creme garbage, TRIPLE creme. Tons of creamy goodness and a very mild (and not very plentiful) rind. Super delicious and one less thing for me to pine for. I never found triple creme brie in CA so I've been yearning for this stuff a LONG time. The last time I had this cheese was in Boston when I used to shop at the Bread and Circus market. Now if we just had decent Chinese food and equally important a great pho restaurant...
While I'm on the subject of food, I just discovered this show on the Travel channel called Man vs. Food. The host basically goes around and finds great eats. The thing that makes the show unique is he goes around searching for food challenges (think of the Ole 96'er from The Great Outdoors movie) and tackles them. It's crazy though because even just the food he covers in the show are challenge-worthy themselves. I think I may watch the Travel channel from now on when seeking food entertainment. Their food programming is incredible. I would have never known that someone out there had thought up Chicken-Fried Bacon until I saw "Fried Food Paradise".
AND there's a restaurant that serves nothing but peanut butter sandwiches. Naturally, they serve my dear Elvis, with bacon and honey. I HAVE to try that, it looks so wonderful....
Oh, and Happy New Years! Here's to better times for those of you who've hit hard ones.

| "...And now you know the real reason the compass points north"
It's not a secret; over the years I've discovered I'm a little more right-leaning than I thought. Not exactly a Republican but definitely not a Democrat. This presidential race has been very disappointing for me. I mean McCain? He's a liberal in Republican clothing. But I refuse to vote Democrat; they're still fixated on George W. Bush. I don't know if they've noticed, but there is no George W. Bush on the ticket. George W. Bush will NEVER be president ever again. And when George W. Bush is finally out of office (and good riddance), I want him to stay out. I don't care to ever hear about George W. Bush ever again.
And now they have some Chicago "thug politician" (Clinton's words, not mine) as their presidential candidate who selected a guy who doesn't even like him as his running mate. Bad judgement? I'll say.
I was prepared to go to the polls with a clothespin over my nose and my eyes closed. Thanks to there finally being a real conservative on the Republican ticket, I can now feel a little bit better about voting for McCain (and no, it doesn't make me a racist, it makes me uninterested in Socialism under Obama and His Crazy Buddies). And I can feel ok about Palin being an "unqualified" nobody running for VP; the Democratic Party have one running for President.

| Tropical Storms are pretty exciting. I've been safely cooped up indoors watching the tree in my backyard sway. I watch the news and see places a stones throw away flooded and hear about people drowning in the ocean, it's hard to believe we're in a state of emergency. Which brings me to a point I made back before Katrina.... if you know something big is coming your way, don't act like you don't know or care what's happening. It could be your life; I can understand some people like to "live on the edge". Whatever, I prefer not to fall off that edge as I have a family who sort of need me to be alive. Anyway, one of the morons who drowned was an out of towner visiting friends who thought it'd be fun to go for a swim in the storm waves. End result, one Darwin award and two Honorable Mentions. Then there was some douchebag who thought it'd be a brilliant idea to take advantage of the extra waves and tried surfing. Unbelieveable. I stepped outside at one point yesterday to see what it's like to be swept off my feet by air (I've already covered showering outdoors) but I guess it was a quiet spot. I loved the strong breeze but nothing special. Brian, however, almost got blown off the road last night so I suppose I'll have to time myself better. I don't know if it's going to be a mess tonight but we'll see. My parents and Co. left earlier this week. They left just in time to miss the excitement of Tropical Storm Fay. Everyone had such a good time though. My nephew and Gabriel hit it off pretty well; Gabriel was a little shadow but my nephew didn't seem to mind. Some 7 year olds like to think they're too cool to hang out with a 3 year old, but he was really good about it. I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but my mom brought us a Wii. Two years plus after its release, the Nintendo Wii is still pretty slim pickins out in these parts so I couldn't say no when my mom offered to buy us one. It was like YES WE'LL TAKE IT! Fun system, go figure I have a Wii and all I've done on it so far is play old Nintendo games. Just beat the SNES Zelda last night for old times sake, it could possibly be my favorite game ever... definitely in my Top 5. I just got my grubby meathooks on Twilight Princess and I plan to become very good friends with it in the upcoming weeks. I shouldn't have too much trouble; Comcast has cut off our service (I'm typing this blog from my in-laws' home) since I haven't paid my bill since getting put on bedrest, as I'd rather have electricity and hence A/C than internet, so what else am I going to do with my time? Actually I'll be going back to work this weekend so who's to say how much free time I'll have what with being gone half the day and coming home to a small baby. But anyway that's about it. I've gotta go catch up on my YouTube subs.. addicted! | | |
| Holy crap. This baby is only 10 lbs. and passes more gas than me, Brian and Gabriel combined. Matches us on the decibel levels too... gosh. Sometimes I'm afraid because he rips 'em so hard I'm worried he's hurting himself, but since he's usually fussing and/or crying before the A-bomb and then a moment of silence once it drops, I figure he's ok. I guess this is what we get. Gabriel never farts, so we get one who makes up for all the quiet time the last 3 years.
Speaking of quiet time, Gabriel is currently in Orlando with my parents, my brother and nephew. They all came to visit and while they're here.... hit up Disney World. It's nice having extra space on the bed again, but yeah it's pretty quiet. On the plus side, the house is cleaner. Helps when there isn't a 3 year old emptying out every single toy box all over the floor as soon as you fill it up.
Gabriel is gone the whole week. He'll probably forget about us when he gets back!
